The Beginning: Welcome to 263 Jump Street

Hey,

As this is our first post (SUPER EXCITED) we would like to introduce to the world who we are.

Hi my name is Gwinyai Ranganayi (aka Bad Cop) I love all things do to with music. I love the process of making it and the product that is created. It is the soundtrack of life that expresses ones emotions and creates atmosphere for all situations. I am a big fan of Rap/Hip Hop, RnB and Contemporary Christian Music. My favourite artists/groups include Hillsong, Chris Brown, Lecrae, PlanetShakers, AKA, Kwesta, Social Club Misfits and so many more. So join us on our search and discovery of music that is made by Zimbabweans.

Hello Zimbabwe

I'm Cyden Chester Chikomba (aka Good cop) no relation to the Chikomba you might know... Like Most people I love music. To me music makes everything better and has the power to change the way we think, feel and view certain things. For me every time I listen to a song that moves me I imagine myself in a music video crazy right!?  I listen to almost anything but I want to proudly play a Zimbabwean track that is as good as an international track without feeling ashamed. I want to be proud of  the quality and the message. I want our local talent to push the boundary and make waves. So join us on this ride as we discover what Zimbabwean music, particularly Rap/HipHop.

Our paths both began in 2017 with conversations discussing the latest album drop and what's hot on the streets and what dominated our conversation was every where else but Zimbabwe. Fortunately in the background, we had both reached the stage where we wanted to hear music we already loved but being created by Zimbabweans and inspired by Zimbabwe. Our knowledge regarding the Zimbabwe music was minimal. It felt like the only artists that existed in Zimbabwe were dancehall artists, Jah Prayzah, Oliver Mtukudzi and the rest. So we without telling each other went on the hunt for music and we were surprised. We were both finding music and talented musicians who were creating and releasing good music but no one was talking about it.

As is common, during one of our usual conversations, unlike previous occasions we ended up talking about Zim Hip Hop. We began to share with each other our adventures on the internet searching for music and the discoveries we made. From that point on wards our conversations were no longer about everybody else, they were about Zimbabwean music.

Since that moment, we realised that as Zimbabweans, the music that was being produced was something that was just not being talked about. So we hope through the posts, reviews and reactions we will join those already championing Zimbabwean music and create more awareness about the music that is coming out and build more support for Zimbabwean artists.

We hope you will join us on this journey

Yours Sincerely
Good Cop and Bad Cop
